Room-Fit Checker: Which Bed Size Fits My Room?
Measure your clear floor space and see which UK bed and mattress sizes fit — then jump to matching Bed Kingdom categories.
How this room-fit checker works
UK mattress sizes are standardised. A small single is 75×190 cm (2ft6), single 90×190 cm (3ft), small double 120×190 cm (4ft), double 135×190 cm (4ft6), king 150×200 cm (5ft) and super king 180×200 cm (6ft). This tool subtracts the clearance you choose on each side, then checks which of those footprints fit in either orientation.
Leave space to walk and make the bed
A bed that “fits on paper” can still feel cramped. Many bedrooms need roughly 40–60 cm on the access side so you can change sheets. Built-in wardrobes, radiators and door swings shrink the clear rectangle — measure the empty floor, not wall-to-wall past furniture.
Ottomans, headboards and loft rooms
End-opening ottoman beds need clear space at the foot equal to the lid travel. Side-opening ottomans need clearance on the lift side. Sloped ceilings in loft rooms often limit headboard height more than mattress length — for low eaves see beds for loft rooms and sloped-ceiling bed tips.
Next step after you pick a size
Once you know the size, use our mattress finder quiz or bed finder quiz to narrow style and feel. Shop by size in beds and mattresses, with Flair, Solace+Co, Maxitex, Recoil and Noomi ranges where they match your size.

Couples in small rooms
A UK double is only 15 cm wider than a small double but feels more shared-sleep friendly for many couples. If the checker says a king does not fit with your clearance, try lowering clearance on the wall side only (put the headboard against the wall) or see best bed size for couples in a small bedroom and small double vs double.
Kids' rooms and bunks
Bunks and cabin beds change the footprint rules: you still need ladder clearance and a safe gap to doors. Top bunks sold in the UK should meet BS EN 747; the guard rail must rise at least 16 cm above the mattress surface, so respect the maximum mattress depth on the bed. Frequently asked questions
Does this include the bed frame size?
It checks the standard UK mattress footprint. Many frames are only a few centimetres larger, but chunky wingbacks and panelled footboards add width or length — always confirm overall dimensions on the product page.
What clearance should I enter?
Try 40 cm if you want walking space on both sides. Enter 0 to see the absolute maximum mattress that could touch the walls — useful for box rooms, less comfortable day to day.
Are EU sizes the same?
No. For example an EU double is often 140×200 cm, not the UK 135×190 cm double. This checker uses UK sizes sold on Bed Kingdom.
