What is a Divan Bed and What are Its Benefits?

A divan bed is a sturdy, fabric-upholstered bed base designed to provide excellent support, comfort, and durability. The base is usually constructed from a robust wooden frame and then padded and wrapped in high-quality fabric for a smooth, stylish finish that offers a solid foundation for your mattress. Many models come in a two-part design for easy assembly and include optional built-in storage drawers, making them a smart space-saving choice for any bedroom.

Some of the main benefits of a divan bed base are:

• Integrated storage: Many divan bases come with built-in drawers or ottoman-style lift-up storage, making them a brilliant space-saving solution.
• Sturdy support: The solid platform top of a divan bed base provides a firm and consistent foundation for your mattress, helping to prolong its life and enhance comfort.
• Customisable style: With a huge range of fabrics, colours, and headboard options, you can create a bed that perfectly matches your bedroom décor.
• Compact footprint: Because the mattress sits flush with the base, a divan bed often takes up less floor space than a traditional bed frame, making it easier to measure and factor in with your existing furniture.

Colours of Divan Beds

The fabric-covered base of a divan bed allows for incredible versatility, letting you set the perfect tone for your bedroom. A grey divan bed is a timeless and popular choice, offering a sophisticated neutral backdrop that complements any colour scheme. For a bold, dramatic statement, a black divan bed creates a powerful and modern focal point. Beyond these classics, discover our collection of calming neutral beiges, rich navy blues, and warming reds and pinks in a variety of shades to bring your vision to life.

Divan Beds with Storage

A divan bed with storage is a game-changer for modern living, seamlessly integrating drawers into the base to keep your bedroom tidy and organised. Choose from single divan beds with storage, often featuring two drawers, perfect for keeping toys or spare bedding tucked away in a child's room. For larger beds, you can opt for two drawers, four drawers, or even clever continental drawers (two full-size and two half-size) to allow for bedside tables. For the master bedroom, a king-size divan bed with storage drawers provides plenty of space for linens, towels, and seasonal clothing.

Divan Bed Materials

Our sturdy wooden divan bed frames are covered with high-quality, durable and cosy materials, including:

• Velvet divan beds - Soft to the touch with a luxurious look, velvet adds a touch of elegance and warmth to any bedroom.
• Damask divan beds – A traditional woven fabric known for its strength and style, damask is both hard-wearing and visually timeless.
• Fabric divan beds – A versatile option, our fabric-covered bases come in a wide range of colours and textures to suit any décor.

Do Divan Beds Come with Mattresses?

Most of our divan beds come with a mattress included, but not all, so make sure to check the product details of the specific divan bed you are viewing. If you see “divan base” in the title, it usually means the listing is for the base only, without a mattress. This gives you the flexibility to choose a mattress that suits your personal comfort preferences, with a wide selection of fillings and support levels available to match your sleep style perfectly.
