A high sleeper raises the bed high enough to fit a desk, wardrobe, futon or shelving underneath, freeing floor space in a small room. High sleepers fall under BS EN 747 and are generally not suitable for children under 6; follow the age and mattress-depth limits on each product page.Guides: High sleeper vs mid sleeper · Mattress for a high sleeper · High sleepers with wardrobe
A high sleeper is a raised bed frame designed to free up floor space beneath. Unlike mid-sleepers or bunk beds, the sleeping area sits higher off the ground, usually with a desk, futon, or shelving unit underneath. It’s perfect for compact rooms, kids, and teens.
Are High Sleepers Safe?
Yes, our high sleeper beds are built with sturdy and durable materials designed to meet UK safety standards. They come with guardrails, secure ladders, and stairs. However, due to their height, we recommend children aged 6 and above sleep on the top bunk.
Size and Age Range of High Sleeper Beds
High sleeper beds are best for kids 6 and up due to their height. The sizes you can find are:
Single High Sleepers - 90 x 190cm, the most common size for kids.
Continental Single High Sleepers – 90 x 200cm, a Euro single high sleeper bed with extra legroom.
Small Double High Sleepers – 120 x 190cm, bigger than a single but smaller than a double, for ages 8 and up.
Continental Small Double High Sleepers – 120 x 200cm, a Euro small double high sleeper bed with extra length for taller kids 8 and up.
Continental Double High Sleepers - 135 x 200cm, a Euro double high sleeper bed with extra length for ages 10 and up.
If you’re unsure which size you need, our bed size guide can help.
High Sleeper Bed Types and Materials
Within our collection, you can find durable wood high sleeper beds and sleek metal high sleepers in the following types:
High Sleeper Loft Beds - A classic raised sleeping area, ladders, and an open space below.
High Sleepers with Storage – Shelves and storage cubbies built underneath the sleeping area.
High Sleepers with a Desk – A study desk underneath the bed, perfect for homework or hobbies.
High Sleeper Gaming Beds – These beds are ideal for teen gamers. They are designed with a built-in desk and storage cubbies for a screen and gaming accessories.
High Sleepers with a Futon - Includes a futon chair for relaxing below the bed, which can be folded out into a bed for sleepovers.
L-Shaped High Sleepers - This is a unique layout in which the frame is arranged in an L-shape, adding separation of space and style.
Staircase High Sleepers - Instead of ladders, these high sleeper beds use solid steps, ideal for younger kids.
Choose neutrals like white, cream, beige, or grey high sleepers for a calm children’s bedroom. These colours can blend seamlessly into décor as your kid ages and their room grows with them. Bold shades such as red, blue, pink, green, orange, or yellow can add energy and creativity to the space, perfect for playrooms. Finally, black, brown, or wooden colours can create a modern bedroom, ideal for older children.
Which Mattress Do High Sleepers Need?
When shopping for a high sleeper, make sure you have a slim mattress, this makes sure it can fit safely under the guard rails. Any mattress type will work, but the depth should be 15-16cm or less and match the size of the bed frame.

What is the difference between a high sleeper and a mid sleeper?
