An L-shaped bunk bed puts the lower bed at a right angle under the top bunk. That leaves space for a desk, storage or a second bed in a corner. Bed Kingdom has 18 L-shaped bunk and high-sleeper listings from £359.99 (Flair Wizard Junior). Popular choices are the Noomi Tera in FSC pine at £399.99 and the Flair Stepaside staircase bunk at £469.99.

Why choose L-shaped over a standard bunk?
- The lower bed sits apart from the top bunk, so there is more headroom on the bottom bed.
- The space under the top bunk can take a desk (Cosmic, Alpha) or a clothes rail (Hampton).
- The footprint is larger. The Stepaside is 244.8cm long overall, so measure the corner first.
Mattresses and safety
- Check the mattress size: the Noomi Tera uses continental 90 x 200cm sizes, while the Flair Stepaside uses UK 90 x 190cm singles.
- Keep to the maximum mattress depth (16cm on the Noomi Tera) so the guard rail stays effective. See the mattress thickness guide.
- Staircase models (Stepaside, Alpha) are easier to climb than ladders.
